Tucker Carlson, Louis E. Chimpstein & Me

How “everybody” in Washington acts when they think “nobody” is watching

DC Superior Court
June 4 (?), 2018

“Evan.”

Why is this strange man talking to me, Gahr wondered.

“I’m Erik Wemple.”

Evan Gahr [laughing to himself]: This is not how I would have imagined we would first meet.

Indeed not.

For months and months, egged on by Tucker Carlson and
Daily Caller media columnist Betsy Rothstein, Gahr had repeatedly stood outside the Washington Post’s now demolished 15th Street building waiting for Wemple with a video camera, so he could ask the former Washington City Paper editor very rude question to incite him into a buzzworthy quote.

His expense reports for trips from NYC to DC even said, “Wemple ambush interview.”

In addition, the Eric Breindel protege had repeatedly strategize with Betsy about showing up at Wemple’s Northwest DC house with a video.  Gahr had mulled it over so many times, checking and re-checking Wemple’s address on whitepages.com, that he had pretty much memorized the scribe’s address.

But now the first time they were meeting was in the hallway outside the courtroom where Gahr, without even being represented by a lawyer, had convinced an initially very hostile judge to reject Carlson’s motion to have the libel case dismissed.

That was very ironic.

But, as famed New Republic editor Michael Kinsley has said, irony is not logic . . .

In the third week of November 2017 Jon Levine, a reporter for The Wrap, a high-profile Hollywood and media website founded by former New York Times Hollywood scribe, asked Gahr about his breach of contract lawsuit against the Daily Caller, Dick Cheney affirmative action hire Neil Patel and Tucker Carlson for not paying him for his November 2016. TK

Levine, who looks and sounds exactly like the brash young producers on the HBO show “Newsroom” then asked Gahr if he had anything else interesting on Tucker Carlson.

In old school journalism parlance this is called “digging”--trying to ferret out new and interesting information.

These days, most reporters’ idea of “digging” his trying to find new Twitter followers.

Either that or trying to find something to “get Trump.”

Gahr, who was battling crippling major depressive disorder but felt much better while talking to Levine because he was looking forward to press coverage to end the excruciating secrecy Carlson had managed to operate in after going along with Patel firing Gahr for getting loud again about Christian Right anti-Semitism and its neo-con apologists, mentioned an incriminating 2016 email from Carlson.

The celebrity journalist had told Gahr, in the course of schmoozing, that somebody at a 2008 Anti-Defamation League  dinner he attended called Barack Obama, a schvartze, a notorious but outdated racial slur, and he found it “hilarious.”

Levine who was hungry for a great story in the way that very few journalists are these days was very pleased.

Levine and Gahr were speaking on a Thursday (?).

Levine told Gahr he would do a big story on the “schvartze” email Sunday night for maximum exposure.

Gahr gave Levine Carlson’s personal email and cell phone.

He figured Carlson would either decline comment or defend the email. After all, on FNC, Carlson purports to protect the Truth from mendacious Democrats, reporters, liberals and so-called progressives.

Instead, Mr. Honesty told Levine a malicious lie.

He said Gahr had fabricated the email--that it was “a fake.”

This is why, in the Court hallway, Gahr had told Wemple that Tucker Carlson is a dumb and sloppy liar like Alger Hiss, the pillar of the Washington liberal establishment in the 1930s (sp) and 1940s who, it turned out, was actually as Soviet spy and was later convicted of perjury …
